Canticle is an original work written for a four part choir. The words are based on extracts from The Song of Solomon and are in the form of dialogue between two lovers. In the final section the parts become interwoven in a simple development that builds to the finish. I have set this piece to images of stained glass – some of the finest examples in the world from gothic and modern churches. The end section features the huge multiple window of Coventry Cathedral, followed by the spiral Glory Window of the Chapel of Thanksgiving in Dallas.
